Principle and Application of Volatile Phenol Analyzer

 

Volatile phenol is a highly toxic substance, a certain amount of human intake will appear acute poisoning symptoms; long-term drinking of water contaminated with phenol, can cause headache, rash, pruritus, anemia and a variety of neurological symptoms. When the content of phenol in water was 0.1 – 0.2 mg/l, the fish meat had peculiar smell, and when the content was more than 5 mg/l, the fish died of poisoning.

Principle: in alkaline medium, in the presence of potassium ferricyanide, phenolic compounds in water react with 4-aminoantipyrine to form orange-red compounds, the absorbance of which is proportional to the content of volatile phenol in water, the content of volatile phenol in water was calculated by measuring the absorbance of the compound.
